Regional anesthesia has evolved far beyond its traditional role of pain relief in perioperative care. By providing targeted neural blockade, it significantly reduces postoperative pain, lowers the need for general anesthesia and opioids, and consequently minimizes complications such as nausea, sedation, and respiratory depression. More importantly, regional anesthesia facilitates earlier mobilization and gastrointestinal recovery, playing a pivotal role in Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols. This talk reviews current evidence and our experience, highlighting the critical impact of regional techniques on anesthetic depth management, functional recovery, and postoperative complication prevention. It also advocates for a redefinition of regional anesthesia's role in comprehensive perioperative care strategies.
