The perioperative management of patients with preeclampsia is a critical area of focus that necessitates a thorough understanding of the condition's implications for both maternal and fetal health. This lecture will provide an in-depth examination of the unique challenges associated with maternity delivery in the context of preeclampsia, including the physiological changes that occur during pregnancy and the potential for complications such as hypertensive crises, placental abruption, and postpartum hemorrhage. We will discuss the importance of a multidisciplinary approach, involving obstetricians, anesthesiologists, and surgical teams, to develop tailored management strategies that prioritize patient safety.
Key topics will include preoperative assessment protocols, anesthetic considerations—highlighting the benefits and risks of regional versus general anesthesia—and intraoperative monitoring techniques essential for managing hemodynamic stability. Additionally, the lecture will address perioperative care strategies to mitigate risks associated with preeclampsia, including monitoring for signs of severe hypertension and managing fluid balance. Through study reviews and evidence-based guidelines, participants will gain valuable insights into optimizing outcomes for both mother and baby during delivery in the setting of preeclampsia.
By the end of the session, attendees will be equipped with practical knowledge to enhance their clinical practice in this complex and high-risk scenario.
