Inhalational anesthetics, including desflurane, sevoflurane, isoflurane, and nitrous oxide, are recognized as high–global warming potential agents and constitute a measurable source of greenhouse gas emissions in healthcare. However, systematic evaluation of their environmental impact has been limited in Taiwan. This study introduces the development of a National Dashboard for Anesthesia Carbon Emissions & Sustainability, a centralized platform designed to integrate anesthetic information system outputs, procurement records, and facility gas monitoring data. The dashboard quantifies carbon dioxide equivalents (CO₂e) at case, institutional, and national levels, enabling standardized benchmarking across anesthesia departments. Key performance indicators include per-case CO₂e intensity, adoption of low-flow techniques, nitrous oxide leakage indices, and substitution trends away from desflurane. By providing transparent and comparative metrics, the dashboard aims to support evidence-based policy formulation, promote sustainable anesthetic practices, and align Taiwan’s healthcare sector with national and global decarbonization strategies.
